Life hacks: watching the best online content for free

We’re all working harder than ever and in these dark times we all need to let off some steam once in a while. If not more. And while Netflix and Chill is great if you’ve got an account, just how can you switch off and have fun without spending a penny? We’ve got just the list for you.

YTS

This is one of the top sites for downloading films. You get to filter through by genre, release date, reviews and ratings too. You’ll need to download uTorrent to be able to watch the film, but it’s worth it. In no time you’ll have a collection worthy of your local cinema all for a fraction of the price…

National Geographic

If you’re passionate about nature like David Attenborough, then you’re in for a treat. The website has a ‘TV’ section which has archives of a selection of many different episodes of National Geographic shows from over the years, giving you easy access to both new and old content. It’s fantastic. And not forgetting that you’re able to watch videos in HD – how nature intended…

9GAG

Memes, gifs, and general laughs. This isn’t to be taken with complete seriousness, but in increasingly dark times, laughter is often the best medicine. If you’ve missed out on 9GAG’s material so far, you can easily find their plethora of shareable content on Facebook and Instagram.

Snapchat

Yes yes, Instagram now has a ‘Stories’ feature, but we can’t forget the original. Snapchat is still absolutely relevant, and they’ve now branched out to give users a range of stories and articles on cooking, sports, fashion, and other handy tutorials.

BuzzFeed

If you’re into celeb gossip, fun quizzes, and viral videos, BuzzFeed is your one-stop shop for EVERYTHING. If you’d rather watch a chef whip up a delectable recipe than try your hand at it yourself in your kitchen, then the ‘Tasty’ feature is right up your street, with tantalising recipes that may (or may not) motivate you to give it a go next time. If you’re feeling down and are in some need of some light entertainment, BuzzFeed is a lovely option.

YouTube

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. YouTube is the world’s largest video website and it’s got you covered for everything you could ever wish for. That Italo Disco track you Shazam’d in the club on Saturday night? Check. Archived clips of Channel 4’s cult Gazzetta Football Italia showing Serie A’s glory days? Check. Tutorials on how to put up a mouse trap? Check. Those three things may or may not be an accurate reflection of my recent YouTube search history, but either way, you’ll find what you’re looking for on YouTube. And I mean, anything. If you’re really lucky, you can stream entire films on there too, so while this won’t be a new one for you, it’s everyone’s favourite video site for a reason.

Go on, give it a go - you might even surprise yourself. Getting something for free in this day and age may seem impossible, but if you follow this list you're in safe hands.
